Tawa bread takes its name from the flat griddle it is cooked on. The dough is folded and layered by hand, so when it hits a hot pan it turns crisp and brown on both sides while the inside stays soft. Tear it, fold it, fill it.

We sell tawa bread uncooked, in packs of 10, so it cooks fresh at home. It goes with eggs in the morning, wraps a sandwich at lunch and sits beside soups and stews at dinner. Our customers turn it into pizza crusts, breakfast sandwiches and stovetop bread pudding. See our recipes for ideas.

For grocers, cafés, caterers and restaurants, we supply the same uncooked loaves by the case. Ask about wholesale.

How to cook

Tawa bread is sold uncooked and cooks in a few minutes on a nonstick pan or griddle, until brown on both sides. Cook it straight from the freezer, frozen or semi-thawed.

  1. Remove the desired amount of sheets of dough from the package.
  2. Heat a nonstick pan or griddle to medium high heat (approx. 375°).
  3. Lightly brush both sides of the dough sheet with melted butter or vegetable oil.
  4. Place the dough sheet (frozen or semi-thawed) in the heated pan. Brown for about 2 minutes until the dough begins to puff.
  5. Flip the dough to brown the other side for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  6. Remove from the pan onto a plate. Ready to eat. Enjoy!
